"Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception."

How it is done
Taking over the Trepca mines: plans and propaganda

by Diana Johnstone (2-28-00)
I just got off the phone with Diana
Johnstone, the journalist and student of international affairs. I called her after reading her article, "How it is done." I wanted to write a short description for this page but I didn't know what to say. I was speechless.

In the article, Diana reveals that the International Crisis Group, funded by George Soros, has plans on how best to take over Yugoslavia's fabulous Trepca Mines.

Diana told me that she is speechless about everything the West has done in Kosovo. Albanian terrorists, essentially U.S. proxies, attack French KFOR troops; the French knuckle under; and US Ambassador to the UN Holbrooke blames - Milosevich! Can this really be happening?

At the end of Diana's analysis we posted links to the Crisis Group report and a relevant news article. The Crisis Group people are concerned that the theft be carried out in a way that does not harm the Serbian 'Democratic" Opposition. To this end, they urge the West to steal the mines soon, before elections in Serbia, so that:

  • "They [the Serbian opposition] could exploit the argument that the `loss' was due to the pariah status of Milosevic himself, so that once again Serbia has lost assets due to his presence in office. So provided action were taken before any elections in Serbia it need not upset, and might contribute to, any strategy for unseating Milosevic." Voices of courage (2-26-00)
Recently several experts testified before the Canadian Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Here we post two of the testimonies.

Michael Mandel is a leading lawyer in the case charging NATO with war crimes against Yugoslavia. His testimony precisely exposes the illegality of NATO actions. Prof. Michael Mandel

James Bisset is the former Canadian Ambassador to Yugoslavia. In his testimony he accuses NATO and the mass media of lying, among other things. James Bisset

"An elderly Serb couple walk past French troops on patrol in the northern, Serb dominated [sic!] part of Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovo, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000. Determined to show that no area of Kosovo is off-limits, American paratroopers Wednesday searched part of this city's Serb-controlled north three days after they were driven away by Serbs in a hail of stones. French troops helped..." (AP Photo/Darko Bandic)

Editor's note: The Western media's definition of 'Serb dominated': An area in which elderly Serbs, "Gypsies" or anti-KLA Albanians can walk to the store without being threatened by machine-gun toting flunkies.

FarizeeŽr!
nico varkevisser (2-24-00)
In Dutch the word means "hypocrites" and suggests deceit and cowardice. Mr. Varkevisser is referring to the elites of the Dutch, French, German and other European countries, especially their response to U.S. Imperial violence.

Mitrovica: The Serbian Side of the Story (2-22-00)
Report from
Tanjug
Violent KLA supporters (many of them from elsewhere in Kosovo, or even from Albania) threatened KFOR troops in southern Mitrovica last weekend. Their demand: a Serb-free Kosovo. They were described by Western media as "a crowd". Meanwhile the angry crowd of Serbian and other citizens in northern Mitrovica were described as "an angry mob." Why were they angry at U.S. and German troops? Could it be they have reason?

U.S. Army 'Psyops' Specialists worked for CNN
Trouw
, 21 February, 2000 * Translated by Emperors-Clothes
By Abe de Vries
Many of the articles on Emperors-clothes.com are devoted to analyzing the techniques by which the media distorts the news. But
how does it actually work? Does news get slanted due to some general fault of 'the system?' Does it just happen, as if by osmosis. Or is it planned and organized by real (if sometimes covert) people?

Trouw, an establishment Amsterdam daily, has gone public with intriguing information. It seems the US Army admitted to Trouw that its Psychological Warfare experts have worked for CNN to produce the "news" and that this "possibly" occurred during the bombing of Serbia.

The American army loves CNN
Trouw, 21 February, 2000 * Translated by Emperors-Clothes
By Abe de Vries
During a closed-door session in February, an Army Psychological Operations Colonel posed:

  • "cooperation with CNN [as]... a textbook example of the kind of ties the American Army wants to have with the media."

Mr. de Vries, who broke the CNN psyops story, looks at some of the implications. Some questions he leaves unasked: are the CIA, NSA and other covert agencies also involved in "helping produce the news"? How extensive is their penetration? Could this story be just the tip of the iceberg?

The roots of Kosovo fascism
by George Thompson (2-19-00)
Why do some ethnic Albanians support KLA terror against Serbs, Roma ("Gypsies") and other Kosovo residents? The mass media says it's revenge, revenge for Serbian misdeeds; this despite ever-growing evidence that the tales of misdeeds are fiction. (See Spinning the Kill) Nevertheless the revenge argument appears in some form in most Western reports of KLA terror. (See Mr. Kenigs has 2nd thoughts.) But if revenge is not the reason some ethnic Albanians hate Serbs, Roma and others, what is? During the U.S. Civil Rights movement, 'States Rights' was a polite code for anti-Black racism. In Kosovo "secession" is the code for "Get rid of all sub-humans." If this sounds like Nazism, good guess; the racist movement came to power in Kosovo under Mussolini and Hitler, during W.W.II. Mr. Thompson's Roots of Kosovo fascism is an eye-opener.

Dismantling Yugoslavia, colonizing Bosnia
by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky (2-15-00)
Quiet but none the less deadly: how the economic policies of the West, especially the US, destroyed the old Yugoslavia and laid the basis for Western political/military interference and intervention throughout the 90s. This article provides much background information and analysis.

NATO'S claims of ethnic cleansing challenged

NATO leaders claim Albanians fled Kosovo during the NATO bombing because of Serbian terror. This by way of justifying the bombing. But if this is true, why (according to NATO's own figures) did proportionally
more Serbs flee than Albanians?

CARE: Never any pretense of neutrality
By Sue Neales (2-8-00)
U.S. military uses of CARE did not start in Kosovo, for which see
Humanitarian Spying. In Never any pretense of neutrality, the author reports it was just as bad in Somalia.

  Humanitarian Spies, (revised)

CARE, the Canadian, US and Australian governments, the OSCE Verifiers and the mass media are examined and do not look good. Includes link to transcript of the SBS broadcast which revealed that CARE had recruited spies against Yugoslavia.
